Why is ChristinaTheVoice Trending on Twitter?

“ChristinaTheVoice” is trending on Twitter today for a very good reason. The phrase is a combination of NBC’s much talked-about new singing competition The Voice, which debuts tonight, and the first name of one of its star judges, Christina Aguilera.

Today’s buzz on Twitter is a result of Aguilera’s aggressive move into the world of Twitter. The singer, whose official account is @TheRealXtina, joined the social network a little over a month ago and quickly gained a strong following just in time for her first appearance on The Voice.

She secured more than 35,000 followers before she made her first Tweet, according to reports. Today, the singer counts more than 266,000 followers, with many of them tweeting “ChristinaTheVoice” in an effort to make the phrase a big trending topic on Twitter.

How is Aguilera using Twitter for The Voice?

The Voice judge has been building excitement for the new show with a variety of creative Tweets featuring photos and videos.

She recently shared a picture of herself and Carson Daly, the host of the show, along with this Tweet: “Always fun to hang with @carsonjdaly on set at @NBCTheVoice. Great day.”

Aguilera also Tweeted: “I loved performing “Crazy” with the boys on @NBCTheVoice” and linked to a video of her singing with the other judges on the show — Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

Finally, Aguilera shared: “I’m getting really excited for everyone to watch the fun we’re having on @NBCTheVoice” and linked to a promotional video on YouTube.

What’s the bottom line?

For reality judges like Aguilera, it’s critical to be active participants in social media. It helps them build a perceived one-on-one relationship with their fans and is quickly becoming a recognized tool for driving television ratings.
