Sia Reveals More Song Titles

So the Christina Aguilera songs you wrote—for the record, how many will there be?

There are four of them. I think they’re called “I Am”—I called it “Lullaby” but she’s given it another name. But I think it’s called, um—[she starts singing]—oh, “All I Need”! And it’s “All I Need,” “You Lost Me,” “I Am” and something like “Stronger.” But I don’t think she called it “Stronger” in the end. That’s just what we called it. We just call it something while it’s in the working process and then she gives it it’s name. There are some where it totally lends itself to its name and there are others where it’s just like, “No, we had a song called ‘Fighter’ so we don’t want a song called ‘Stronger.’” But they’re all on there. She’s pretty awesome. It was pretty crazy when she sang at me for the first time.

Were there any songs you two recorded that didn’t make it on the album?

No, just those four songs. Then we did another one for her movie with Cher. So it’s been a really good collaboration, actually. We really got along great. We didn’t bin anything, which was good.

Goldfrapp Talk More About Collaboration

Beyond the sessions for Head First, the duo had spent a week in Los Angeles in 2009, blessing pop superstar Christina Aguilera with some retro-futuristic sounds for her upcoming, electro-heavy fourth album Bionic. Although whether the track will be included is anybody’s guess.

“We don’t know what’s happening with it,” says Goldfrapp. “We don’t know whether she’s having an album out and we don’t know if the track’s on the album. We know nothing.” “She was very sweet. Very professional, really on… She knew exactly what she wanted. She was really articulate about what she was trying to do. Just seemed really in control,” adds Gregory. “We got the track to a certain point. But we haven’t heard anything since. It kind of needs finishing.”

When asked what the Goldfrapp/Christina collaboration sounds like, Gregory exclaims, “I don’t remember!”

“Not that good as far as we’re concerned, because it needs some work,” adds Goldfrapp. “So we fucking hope it isn’t going on the record, because it ain’t finished!”

Jo of Le Tigre Blogs, Confirms Collaboration

Earlier today, Johanna Fateman of electro band Le Tigre posted a blog about their experience working with Christina. Here are a few quotes.

Yes, the rumors are true. . . Le Tigre wrote and produced a couple of songs with Christina! Not wanting to break the spell of this magic opportunity as we wait in suspense to hear if our tracks make it on the album, we’ve been quiet on the topic. But now that the buzz is getting crazy I just can’t contain myself. Needless to say, for a feminist band obsessed with pop music, it was pretty much a dream come true.

When it came time to lay down vocals we were in awe. She is a technical virtuoso behind the mic, layering take after take of flawless vocals and coming up with variations, ad-libs, and harmonies on the fly. And while her voice is like a force of nature, she is completely disciplined in her approach to recording and realizing her vision for each track. At the end of each night she would have a CD burned for her and come back with detailed comments about things she wanted to perfect the next day.

Together we tailored themes and specific references to her personality and image but found a ton of common ground in our aim to make upbeat danceable tracks celebrating female friendship, strength, and of course, PARTYING. And while the giant sound of her stacked vocals and the pop sheen she lends to the tracks might seem at odds with Le Tigre’s aesthetic roots, it really works. The songs have a lot of elements we’re known for, like a garage guitar sound, schoolyard chants, new wave-y synths, electro beats, and somehow it all sounds crazily right with Christina’s unbelievable voice.

You can read the rest of the blog here. It sounds like they made magic together. I really hope their tracks make the album!

Goldfrapp: Song May Not Make It Onto ‘Bionic’

Goldfrapp did an interview with Entertainment Weekly recently. They spoke about the track they did with Christina. Here is an excerpt:

As for their previously reported work with Christina Aguilera, they say they joined her in the studio about a year ago to collaborate on a song that may or may not be released on Aguilera’s upcoming Bionic. “We didn’t finish it, so who knows what will happen,” Goldfrapp says. Adds Gregory: “It was very nice to be asked, very nice to work with her…And then we haven’t heard where it is, so we’re sort of curious to know.” (A rep for Aguilera’s label was unable to confirm whether the song will make Bionic’s final track listing.)

Christina Aguilera, Title TBD (RCA)
Release Date: April 2010

Recorded in her home studio, Christina Aguilera’s as-yet-untitled fourth studio album shows her dabbling in rap and dance and boasts an intriguing array of collaborators: Linda Perry, Sia Furler & Sam Dixon, Chris “Tricky” Stewart & Claude Kelly, Santigold, M.I.A., John Hill & Dave Switch, Ladytron and Le Tigre. The album will also have empowering ballads, including the Perry-produced “Lift Me Up.” The project is a departure from 2006′s “Back to Basics”-a soul- and hip-hop-fusing tribute to such inspirations as Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Billie Holiday that spun off the No. 6 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Ain’t No Other Man” and has sold 1.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Aguilera will make her feature-film debut later this year in the dramatic musical “Burlesque.” Slated for release at Thanksgiving, the film also stars Cher, Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci and Julianne Hough.

Christina Confirms Album Title…

BIONIC

Christina confirmed the title herself in Marie Claire. I apologized for the lack of photo updates. I’ve been at my mom’s house since Christmas, and I’m really behind schedule with uploading. I will upload the magazine scans and latest candids as soon as possible.

The Bravery were in the studio with producer John Hill, who has previously worked with Santogold and M.I.A., and that new tunes were “already taking shape”. In a Billboard feature, Enidcott descibes the new album as “more like the first record (in 2005) in that there’s a lot of electronics on it. While recording the new album, Sam Endicott and John Hill co-wrote three songs for the new Shakira album, including the single “She Wolf” and “Men In This Town.” Endicott and Hill have also co-written a song for the new Christina Aguilera album.

Hill turned out to be a fruitful collaborator for Endicott, not just on the Bravery’s album, but as a cowriter on some outside material. Hill is known for critical-fave fare like M.I.A. and Santogold, “but he’s also done J.Lo and Christina Aguilera… and then Amazing Baby. So he’s done a lot of super-indie rock and then also pop stuff. He was producing Shakira, and she was like ‘Play me something you’ve been working on.’ So he and I got together and wrote a few songs, and she wound up recording two or three of them”—including the hit “She Wolf.”

Tricky Stewart Chats With VIBE

How did you approach working with Christina Aguilera versus R&B artists?

With Christina it’s a little different, because Christina wants music that you haven’t heard before. She did things that she’s never necessarily heard on the radio. She doesn’t want a record that sounds like anything else so you’re trying to create an entirely new sound for an artist. The three tracks that I did, they’re all uptempo tracks so we definitely kind of get the club moving but it’s just a matter of her doing different styles and using her voice in different ways.

Christina Did a Photoshoot Recently

According to ChristinaVIP, who allegedly works for a photo agency, Christina has finished a photoshoot.

ETA: It has been confirmed that it is for the album booklet, shot by Alix Malka.
