Will Ferrell is helping Christina Aguilera get back to her roots. “The Voice” judge has returned to Spanish-language singing with “Casa de Mi Padre,” the lead track on the soundtrack to the comedian’s telenovela-influenced comedy of the same name.
The new song finds Aguilera making a welcome return to Latin music. No synthesizers or AutoTune here — instead, the production has dramatic Spanish guitars, blaring trumpets, and a gospel backing all with a flamenco twist. Aguilera’s vocals are in the forefront, doing what she does best: belting and sustaining the notes most can only dream of nailing.
In a treat for Latin fans, “Casa” marks a return to the half-Ecuadorian Aguilera’s early days. Aguilera most notably released a Spanish version her debut album titled “Mi Reflejo,” in 2000. The album featured Spanish version of her No. 1 singles “Genie In A Bottle,” “What A Girl Wants,” “Come On Over, Baby (All I Want Is You)” as well as original tracks. She went on to win Best Female Pop Vocal Album at the 2001 Latin Grammy Awards.
Aguilera had only dipped into the genre since with a Spanish version of “Stripped” track “Get Mine, Get Yours” titled “Dame Lo Que Yo Te Doy” in 2002 and a contribution to the 2004 “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights” soundtrack with “El Beso Del Final.” The closest thing fans have heard since is the Spanglish banger “Desnudate,” featured on 2010′s “Bionic.”
The “Casa de Mi Padre” soundtrack was digitally released on Tuesday, with the film due in theaters on Friday, March 17. The song opens the film.
According to ChristinaVIP: “Look for Christina on the cover of Rolling Stone coming very soon! Along with the other ‘The Voice’ coaches, Christina is of course front and center! She looks great in all black, leather jacket, leggings, and some sparkling Louboutins.”
An excerpt from the article:
“After a long career of her own, Aguilera particularly loved The Voice’s inclusion of older contestants who may have already gone through a record contract or two. “It’s nice to give people second chances,” she says. “It’s a great opportunity to give people new life and jump-start not only them but your heart and your spirit for this business again.”
Coincidentally, she’s been working on a new album of her own. “I only make records when I’m really passionate and have something to say, and I have a lot to say, with the time that was taken off since my last record – a couple of years. I have a lot of ****, a lot of crazy ****.”
It’s been about two weeks since it was first announced that a Michael Jackson tribute concert was in store for the people of Cardiff, Wales, but we hadn’t heard who would be performing.
Until now, that is.
E! News confirms that The Voice stars Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will be participating in this sure-to-be memorable event along with a couple of others…
Although it’d be super cute if Blake Shelton and Adam Levine also joined in so we’d have the whole NBC series involved, they’re not – at least not yet anyway.
Two other artists that will be taking part in Michael Forever – The Tribute Concert on Oct. 8 are Leona Lewis and the band Alien Ant Farm (might sound odd at first, but remember, they did a cover of “Smooth Criminal”).
LOS ANGELES — At home here on Saturday afternoon, Paul Telegdy, who heads up reality programming for NBC, directed his Web browser to a real-time search engine of Twitter messages and checked in on “The Voice,” the Tuesday night singing competition that is his network’s strongest new entry in several years.
There were dozens of Twitter messages each minute from viewers about “The Voice.” “Hey, what’s going on?” he wondered. Then he remembered: the E! channel, an NBC Universal sibling, was running a marathon of the season to date.
“I was sort of overwhelmed by how much interactivity there was,” Mr. Telegdy said the next day, again refreshing the search engine. (“You have to be careful you don’t check every five seconds,” he added.)
Helped along by online chitchat, cable marathons and a cast of four celebrity coaches, “The Voice” is in the midst of a crescendo, as this Tuesday’s show starts a climactic period of live broadcasts and live rejections of contestants. The show, which had its premiere at the end of April, is averaging about 12.9 million viewers, and, more important for NBC, about 7.35 million of them are between the ages of 18 to 49, making it the No. 1 new series of the television season with that group.
With “The Voice,” it looks like NBC has finally gotten the hit it desperately needs.
The second week of the singing competition delivered an average of 12.4 million total viewers from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., up 5% from last week’s impressive premiere, according to the Nielsen Co.
“The Voice” thus becomes the only new series on any of the major networks this season to deliver a bump from the first to second episode, usually a reliable indicator of hit status.
Best of all for long-suffering NBC, “The Voice” is showing its strongest numbers among young adults. In the key advertising category of adults age 18 to 49, Tuesday’s airing scored a 5.6 rating/14 share, making it the night’s top-rated show. It easily swept past “Glee,” which delivered a 3.6 rating/10 share at 8 p.m.
Last week’s premiere of “The Voice” had a median viewer age of 40.6 — which might not sound all that youthful, but is compared with much of the competition on TV, especially crime shows.
NBC’s new singing competition, featuring Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green, debuted Tuesday night.
Does American Idol finally some real competition?
You might say it does, based on Twitter reactions to NBC’s new singing competition The Voice. During its Tuesday night premiere, the show became a top trending topic, with nearly all of the reactions positive.
There was high praise for the Mark Burnett-produced show as well as its four judges: Christina Aguilera, Adam Levin, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton.
“#TheVoice is MY NEW FAVE COMPETITION SHOW! they are all AMAZING!” tweeted Mel Jogia.
“ChristinaTheVoice” is trending on Twitter today for a very good reason. The phrase is a combination of NBC’s much talked-about new singing competition The Voice, which debuts tonight, and the first name of one of its star judges, Christina Aguilera.
Today’s buzz on Twitter is a result of Aguilera’s aggressive move into the world of Twitter. The singer, whose official account is @TheRealXtina, joined the social network a little over a month ago and quickly gained a strong following just in time for her first appearance on The Voice.
She secured more than 35,000 followers before she made her first Tweet, according to reports. Today, the singer counts more than 266,000 followers, with many of them tweeting “ChristinaTheVoice” in an effort to make the phrase a big trending topic on Twitter.
How is Aguilera using Twitter for The Voice?
The Voice judge has been building excitement for the new show with a variety of creative Tweets featuring photos and videos.
She recently shared a picture of herself and Carson Daly, the host of the show, along with this Tweet: “Always fun to hang with @carsonjdaly on set at @NBCTheVoice. Great day.”
Aguilera also Tweeted: “I loved performing “Crazy” with the boys on @NBCTheVoice” and linked to a video of her singing with the other judges on the show — Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
Finally, Aguilera shared: “I’m getting really excited for everyone to watch the fun we’re having on @NBCTheVoice” and linked to a promotional video on YouTube.
What’s the bottom line?
For reality judges like Aguilera, it’s critical to be active participants in social media. It helps them build a perceived one-on-one relationship with their fans and is quickly becoming a recognized tool for driving television ratings.
We got Christina Aguilera who’s the voice of the generation and one of the best female artists and singers of all time, hands down. She’s got a fiery spirit and is the only female you know who loves all sorts of music. She’s great with her team. She’d be a great choice for any artist.
Having worked at MTV, you’ve known Christina Aguilera since she was a teenager. In what ways is she the same and in what ways is she different from when you first met her?
Oh my God! I think the world of her. I’ve been very clear about that. I think she is the, when they mentioned this show, the voice. To me, she is the voice of the generation. I think you can’t have a female coach without having her. She’s a woman now. It’s great to see her. You know, I haven’t seen her in a little while in the last, you know, so many years since the TRL days. When I knew her then, she was a fiery young songbird. She was a little girl with big pipes and now she is a, now she’s a woman and a mother and she’s mama bear and she just, she owns it and she’s really confident in her voice and her business. It’s like she’s in her prime right now. It’s been awesome to work with her again recently and get to know her. She’s so great in this show. Any reservation or any sort of trepidation that somebody would have had about how incredible she is in this show. She goes all in to try and help her team.
